About Andy Cooney

Andy Cooney is an American vocalist, songwriter, recording artist, and entertainer born Andrew Christopher Cooney on Long Island, New York — one of nine children raised in a deep-rooted Irish American family whose love of Irish music was instilled from birth by his Dublin-born grandfather, Andy Feehan. Christened "Irish America's Favorite Son" by The New York Times and dubbed "An American Gift to Ireland's Heritage" by The New York Daily News, Cooney began singing at family and church gatherings as a young child and launched his professional career at seventeen, appearing in well-known Irish establishments in the New York area entertaining audiences with his piano playing and singing. In 1986, at nineteen, legendary Irish bandleader Paddy Noonan invited him to tour with his show — an experience that gave Cooney national exposure and won him a place in the hearts of audiences from coast to coast. In 1994 he struck out on his own, assembling a band of the finest musicians on the Irish music scene and touring the US year-round. A member of The New York Tenors, he has performed at Carnegie Hall nine times, David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin. His country music connections — a natural link given Irish music's deep roots in country — have seen him work with the Oak Ridge Boys, Larry Gatlin, Charlie Daniels, and Crystal Gayle. In 1995 he founded the Cruise of Irish Stars, an annual Irish music-themed Caribbean cruise drawing nearly 1,500 fans from Ireland and the United States. He has recorded 15 albums and hosts the weekly podcast Andy Cooney's New York Irish Music Hour, available on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and major platforms.
