About Avatar

Avatar are a Swedish metal band formed in Gothenburg in 2001 by teenage friends John Alfredsson and Jonas Jarlsby, soon joined by vocalist Johannes Eckerström and bassist Henrik Sandelin, with guitarist Tim Öhrström completing the lineup in 2011. They started out in melodic death metal before developing the theatrical dark-carnival identity that defines them now, built around Eckerström's ringmaster persona and concept records such as Avatar Country. Their tenth album, Don't Go in the Forest, arrived on Halloween 2025 through the band's own Black Waltz Records. Avatar have spent 2026 on the road almost continuously, headlining Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand while supporting Metallica across European stadiums over the summer.
