Ballyhoo! is an American reggae rock, punk, and pop band from Aberdeen, Maryland, formed in July 1995 — one of the hardest-working acts in the American beach rock and reggae-rock circuit, celebrated for an irresistible blend of rock energy, punk intensity, pop melody, and reggae groove anchored by the voice of frontman and lead guitarist Howi Spangler. Founded by brothers Howi Spangler (vocals/guitar) and Donald "Big D" Spangler (drums) with bassist Josh Farley, the lineup solidified when Cassius King replaced Farley in 1997 and keyboardist Scott Vandrey joined in 2000. Debut album 365-Day Weekend (2000, Hooligan Records) launched their career, followed by the Green EP (2004) and Do It for the Money (2006, produced by 311 collaborator Scott Ralston). Cheers! (2009, Surfdog Records) and Daydreams (2011, LAW Records) — which debuted at number one on the iTunes Reggae chart — continued their upward trajectory. Touring relentlessly alongside 311, The Expendables, Pepper, Authority Zero, and Dirty Heads, they expanded their footprint with Pineapple Grenade!! (2013, Right Coast Records), which charted on the Billboard 200. Girls. (2017), Detonate (2018), Message to the World (2020), and Shellshock (2023) continued their evolution. With nine studio albums and over 200,000 digital tracks sold, Ballyhoo! has appeared on Vans Warped Tour, contributed to The House That Bradley Built honoring Sublime, appeared on Cali Roots Riddim 2021, and collaborated with The Expendables on The ExpendaHoo! The current lineup is Howi Spangler, Donald Spangler, Scott Vandrey, and bassist Nick Lucera.
