Dumptruck formed in Boston in 1983 around singer-guitarists Seth Tiven and Kirk Swan, and became a fixture on American college radio in the middle of that decade. The sound was jangling guitar pop with a melancholy streak, drawing comparisons to R.E.M. and Television, and it landed alongside contemporaries like Miracle Legion and Game Theory. Three albums in five years established the band, and then a lawsuit with their label took everything away for the better part of a decade.
