About Friko

Friko formed in Chicago in 2019 around Evanston Township High School classmates Niko Kapetan on vocals and guitar and Bailey Minzenberger on drums, and came out of the city's DIY rock community into a wave of national attention. Their 2024 debut Where We've Been, Where We Go From Here, home to Get Numb To It!, drew best-of-the-year declarations and put them on ATO Records alongside fellow Chicagoans Brigitte Calls Me Baby and Neal Francis. The band has since expanded to a quartet with guitarist Korgan Robb and bassist David Fuller. Their second album Something Worth Waiting For, recorded in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton, arrived April 24, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions about Friko

When is Friko's next tour?

A North American headline run opens September 8 in St. Louis and crosses into Canada for Vancouver's Fox Cabaret on September 26, the Great Hall in Toronto on October 19 and Bar Le Ritz in Montreal on October 20, before wrapping October 31 in Columbus. Earlier 2026 dates included a sold-out release show at Metro in Chicago, in-stores across the upper Midwest, WXPN's NON-COMMvention, and summer festivals in Europe and Japan including Fuji Rock and Haldern Pop.

What is Friko's latest album?

Something Worth Waiting For, out April 24, 2026 on ATO Records. The band wrote and refined 15 songs while touring the debut, and it is the first record made by the current four-piece. Songs include Choo Choo, Dear Bicycle and Hot Air Balloon, the last inspired by waking up in an Albuquerque Cracker Barrel parking lot to see the International Balloon Fiesta filling the sky.

What does Friko sound like?

Their music is genre-bending indie rock that swings between extremes — quiet and shattering, propulsive and still — capturing what the band describes as the pandemonium of young adulthood. Kapetan has called the title track a mission statement for the record, a song that drives forward without ever looking back.
