About Kylesa

Kylesa formed in Savannah, Georgia in 2001 out of the remains of the sludge band Damad, with guitarist Laura Pleasants joining from North Carolina. The name comes from kilesa mara, a Buddhist term for a deluded state of mind. Their music built heavy riffs and drop-tuned guitars into something more expansive, folding in psychedelic rock, crust punk, and experimentation, and from 2006 they ran with two drummers at once. The band went on indefinite hiatus in April 2016. In August 2024 they announced their return, and founding guitarists and vocalists Pleasants and Phillip Cope have since been joined by a new rhythm section.
