About Lawrence Arms

The Lawrence Arms are a punk rock trio from Chicago, formed in 1999 by bassist Brendan Kelly, guitarist Chris McCaughan and drummer Neil Hennessy, all veterans of the city's nineties punk scene. Kelly and McCaughan split the singing, Kelly's harsher and more urgent voice set against McCaughan's more relaxed and melodic one, and their lyrics fold history and literature into American pop culture. After early records on Asian Man they moved to Fat Wreck Chords for 2006's Oh! Calcutta! and to Epitaph for 2014's Metropole. In 2018 the band distilled its catalogue into the 29-track anthology We Are the Champions of the World, and 2020's Skeleton Coast was recorded at Sonic Ranch in Texas, the first time they had worked outside Chicago.
