About Beabadoobee

The British singer-songwriter Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus also known as Beabadoobee was born on June 3, 2000. She rose to fame in the late 2010s with her unique blend of indie rock and lo-fi sounds.

Biography and Childhood

Beabadoobee was born on June 3, 2000, in Iloilo City, Philippines. When she turned three years old her family relocated to London, England, from Iloilo City in the Philippines which launched her multicultural lifestyle. The early move guided Beabadoobee toward creating music that combines Western sounds with elements from her Filipino roots.

Beabadoobee experienced exposure to various musical styles throughout her time growing up in West London. Her childhood home resonated with the sounds of original Pinoy music, as well as 1990s pop and rock. This eclectic mix laid the foundation for her future musical endeavors, instilling in her an appreciation for various genres and styles.

At Sacred Heart High School Beabadoobee received her formal education as a student in the all-girls Catholic institution. However, her rebellious nature clashed with the conservative environment, leading to her expulsion. She later completed her thirteenth year at Hammersmith Academy, where she likely found a more suitable atmosphere for her creative spirit.

Music was fundamental during Beabadoobee's early developmental years. She dedicated seven years to learning the violin before she received her first guitar when she turned 17. This gift would prove transformative, as she taught herself to play through YouTube tutorials and began writing her own songs. Her early musical influences included indie rock artists like Karen O, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Florist, and Alex G.

The Filipino heritage of Beabadoobee remains an essential element that shapes her artistic practice today. She has expressed her love for Filipino artists, particularly the APO Hiking Society, and credits OPM (Original Pilipino Music) as a significant influence on her musical career.
