About Disturbed
Formed in 1994, Disturbed is a hard rock group formed in Chicago who have put out eight albums and sold over 17 million records globally. The Midwestern quartet have received six RIAA certifications for their work and along with Godsmack and Slipknot, are widely recognized as one of the best heavy metal bands of the 21st Century.
Although the band’s lineup has slightly changed through the years, guitarist Dan Donegan and drummer Mike Wengren have been members since the group’s inception. In 1996, lead vocalist David Draiman replaced Erich Awalt while in 2004, John Moyer replaced original bassist Steve “Fuzz” Kmak.
The five-platinum album The Sickness—which earned them classic five of those aforementioned six RIAA certifications—put the Windy City rockers on the musical map with hot singles like “Down With the Sickness” and “Stupify.”
In the formative year of 1994, the group started out with the name Brawl (1994-1996) with Donegan, Wengren, Awalt, and Kmak. They wanted to call the group “Crawl,” but that name was already taken.
They renamed the band Disturbed in 1997 and put together two three-track demos and eventually signed with Giant Records in 1999. Disturbed opened for another popular Chicago group, Ministry, around the same point in time at the city’s famous Riviera Theatre.
In 2000, the foursome released The Sickness, and their lives changed for good. The album reached No. 20 on the Billboard 200. The record has sold over four million copies since its release 25 years ago.
Singles from all eight of Disturbed’s albums have made the Top 10 on the Mainstream Rock chart and the group has received two Grammy Award nominations in their illustrious musical career. All four of their releases from 2002 to 2010 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The group did a stirring rendition of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence” earlier this year. The cover was a smash hit and passed one billion views on YouTube and was Disturbed’s first song to make the Billion Views Club.

About The Sickness Album
Recorded from November to December 1999 at Groovemaster Studios (Chicago) and Soundtrack studios (New York City), the Nu metal release The Sickness was produced by Johnny K and released on the labels Giant Records and Reprise and is 47:36 in length.
The album’s artwork was done by Disturbed’s newly created mascot name “The Guy.” With singles like ‘Down With the Sickness,’ ‘Stupify,’ and ‘Voices,’ the debut album reached No. 29 on the charts, spent 106 weeks there, and was certified five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipping more than 5 million copies in the U.S.
Despite being the band’s most successful album, it never reached No. 1 on the charts.
