About Woodland

The first album from Gillian Welch and David Rawlings together in 13 years, Woodland was released on August 23, 2024, by Acony Records and is named after the Grammy Award-winning folk duo’s Woodland Sound Studios in the Mecca of country music, Nashville, which was destroyed back in 2020 by a tornado.

The release is the seventh studio album by Gillian Welch and the third sold release from David Rawlings. Rawlings also released two albums with Dave Rawlings Machine. Woodland marked the first release of original material from Welch since 2011 (The Harrow & The Harvest) and the first from Rawlings since 2017 (Poor David’s Almanack).

The 2020 album All the Good Times (Are Past & Gone) featured only cover versions of preexisting songs.

The first album by Welch, titled Revival, was released on April 9, 1996, and featured Rawlings. It was nominated for the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Album. It was recorded at the aforementioned Woodland Sound Studios in East Nashville with esteemed producer T Bone Burnett.

Woodland features 10 tracks with the first single, Empty Trainload of Sky being released July 19, 2024, with the record’s second single, Hashtag, coming out on August 9. You can expect to hear both of these songs as well as Howdy Howdy, Lawman, Turf the Gambler, and What We Had from Woodland during this current 2025 tour.
