Marty Supreme: Tyler, the Creator Joins Cast

Six years after name-dropping Timothée Chalamet in his 2018 song “Okra,” Tyler, the Creator has officially joined the cast of the upcoming A24 film Marty Supreme alongside the Dune star. First reported by Variety, this news has excited fans and critics eager to see how Tyler will bring his unique flair to the big screen.

Tyler, the Creator's Acting Debut in 2024

Tyler, the Creator’s yet undisclosed role in Marty Supreme marks his first major film debut, adding another layer to his already impressive resume as a Grammy-winning rapper, producer, and fashion designer. Tyler joins Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow for his first feature film with director Josh Safdie as part of the A24 production.

Although Marty Supreme is his first big film role, Tyler isn't new to the entertainment scene outside of music. He starred in the sketch comedy series Loiter Squad and voiced characters in Big Mouth. Tyler has also directed many of his own music videos, including for tracks like "Yonkers" and "EARFQUAKE," which has likely honed his eye for storytelling and prepared him for on-screen acting.

What’s interesting is that Tyler's involvement with Marty Supreme ties back to his long-time admiration for Timothée Chalamet. He even mentioned Chalamet in his 2018 track “Okra” with the line, “Tell Tim Chalamet to come get at me.” Since then, they have been close friends regularly engaging in playful exchanges on social media, and supportive of each other’s work. What is "Marty Supreme" About and Who is Marty Reisman?

Marty Supreme draws inspiration from the life of Marty Reisman, a legendary figure in American table tennis. As a genius with the hardbat ping-pong paddle, Reisman began his career as a ping-pong hustler in New York City when he was only twelve years old. Placing bets on the matches and playing for the prizes, he rapidly became one of the most professional players in the country, while winning 18 national and international titles. He has won two U.S. Men’s Singles Championships (1958 and 1960) and three Canadian Championships.

The Marty Supreme cast brings together a powerhouse of talented actors, each bringing their own unique strengths to this exciting A24 film.

Timothée Chalamet as the Lead

Timothée Chalamet takes on the lead role in Marty Supreme while also serving as a co-producer. This film directed by Josh Safdie is based on the real life of the table tennis player Marty Reisman. However, the movie is described as a "fictionalized original film" rather than a strict biopic. Chalamet's involvement in this project comes after his recent successes in Dune: Part Two and Wonka, which solidified his status as one of Hollywood’s rising A-list actors.

Gwyneth Paltrow's Surprising Return to Acting

Gwyneth Paltrow makes an unexpected return to the big screen in Marty Supreme, her first major role since 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Even though the specifics of Paltrow’s character have not been revealed, the comeback to acting means that Paltrow will be shifting her focus away from the lifestyle brand that she owns, Goop. Her participation reunites her with the entertainment company A24 and pairs her with Chalamet under the direction of Safdie, famed for his work on Uncut Gems.

Other Notable Cast Members

The cast of Marty Supreme continues to grow with a mix of intriguing performers. Odessa A'zion, recognized for her work in Fresh Kills and Hellraiser, joins the ensemble in an undisclosed role. They also have Penn Jillette from the Penn & Teller show in the cast to hopefully bring some sort of “magic show” touch. In a surprising twist, Shark Tank’s Kevin O'Leary, known as Mr. Wonderful, will also make his feature film debut. Cult filmmaker Abel Ferrara, famous for crime thrillers like King of New York, also joins the cast. This amazing cast list will definitely bring some interesting dynamics to Safdie’s ping-pong movie.

From Music to Movies in 2024

2024 is finally the year that Tyler officially enters the movie business.

Tyler kickstarted his musical year in 2024 with a show at Coachella where he was headlining alongside Lana Del Rey and Doja Cat. Unfortunately for the fans who wished to hear new songs, Tyler revealed on Twitter that there will be no new songs in 2024.

Although there was no new music from Tyler; he continued to perform at various music festivals. On top of that, he still carried on organizing his own annual music festival, Camp Flog Gnaw, in Los Angeles where he proved his love for providing special musical experiences to his fans.

Every now and then Tyler was still making his appearance through online media. In a recent interview on Supreme’s YouTube channel, he expanded on his ideas regarding art and the internet, music, and even his own plans as an artist. These interviews allowed him to update his fans on what he had been up to recently and what he was planning to do.

However, the most significant development in Tyler's career thus far is his current foray into acting by joining the cast of A24's Marty Supreme. We’re looking forward to seeing where he’ll take it from there.
