About MJ Lenderman

MJ Lenderman whose real name is Mark Jacob Lenderman was born in 1999 and he is a singer-songwriter as well as a multi-instrumentalist based in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2024, at the age of 25, Lenderman began to gain popularity in the indie rock community with his music that incorporated elements of alt-country, classic rock, and indie rock.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Lenderman’s musical experience developed during his childhood years with the guidance of his parents who had diverse musical preferences. Growing up, he went to a Catholic school and was an altar boy, then switched to a public school to study music. He got interested in guitar through the video game Guitar Hero and began idolizing musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Smashing Pumpkins. Lenderman started recording himself on his mother’s laptop by the fifth grade and was influenced by the lo-fi music of My Morning Jacket.

Rise to Fame

Lenderman’s popularity further grew with the release of his 2022 album Boat Songs which was well-received and included in the list of the best albums of 2022 by Pitchfork, The A. V. Club, and The Ringer. This success led to a recording contract with Anti Records.

In 2024, Lenderman set out on his “Manning Fireworks Tour” as the title of his most recent album. The tour takes him through 8 countries with over 30 scheduled shows in the coming future. Lenderman plays with his band called “The Wind”, which is referenced in the full tour name “MJ Lenderman & The Wind: Manning Fireworks Tour”.

Besides working on his solo project, Lenderman has also collaborated with others. He is the guitarist for the band Wednesday and has also worked on other artists’ material.
