About Young the Giant
Young the Giant were originally formed in Irvine, California in 2004 under the name “The Jakes. In 2009, the group was signed by Roadrunner Records, and in 2010, they released their first album, the eponymous Young the Giant, which saw three songs make the US Alternative Songs chart.
The group officially changed their name from The Jakes to “Young the Giant” during the production of that first album to represent the "stupid boldness" of their Southern Californian youth that motivated the musicians to commit to a career in banging on the drums and in the arts.
Brainstorming in their West Hollywood, California apartment, lead singer Sameer Gadhia suggested naming the group “Young the Giant” instead of “The Young Giant”, liking the unique nature of it. And the group Young the Giant—no relation to famous wrestler Andre the Giant—was born.
Apollinaire, Jungle Youth, Western Eyes—from the Portishead song—Young Turks, and Kodacoast were also among the many names on the list that the then-The Jakes mulled over before officially changing their name to Young the Giant in 2010. So now you know.
Young the Giant’s last headlining tour was American Bollywood back in 2023, where Milky Chance was the backup act, and the group played places like the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and the Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago.
For this next and sixth studio album, Victory Garden, the group worked with producer Brendan O’Brien, a guy who has worked with esteemed artists like the aforementioned Bruce Springsteen, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, and AC/DC.
