Mavado, born David Constantine Brooks in 1981, is a Jamaican dancehall singer from the Cassava Piece community in Kingston, known to fans as the Gully God. He sang in his grandmother's church choir before Bounty Killer took him under his wing in his mid-teens, and his 2004 debut single "Real McKoy," voiced over Daseca's Anger Management riddim, made him a star at home almost immediately. "Weh Dem a Do" carried him onto the Billboard charts two years later, and the albums Gangsta for Life and Mr. Brooks...
