The trio released EPs 100€ and AVA (2016) and No (2017) before a two-year hiatus; returning in 2019, they added bassist Aaron Shapiro to complete the current four-piece. The 2020 single "Suntan" announced their return to widespread underground attention. Debut album Dogsbody (February 24, 2023, True Panther Sounds) — "a special conjuring of gray areas without a whiff of indecision" — earned Pitchfork's Best New Music and immediate critical acclaim, establishing Model/Actriz as one of their generation's most compelling bands. Frontman Haden openly incorporates queer sexual themes "as a gay person working in a genre that's not very outwardly gay," bringing a confrontational but deeply personal dimension to music influenced by the Birthday Party, Death Grips, Savages, These Arms Are Snakes, and Sonic Youth.
