About Paul Piche

Paul Piché is a Québécois singer-songwriter born in Montreal in 1953, whose songs have become fixtures of the province's repertoire, sung at parties, around campfires, and at Fête nationale celebrations. He writes mostly on acoustic guitar. The albums À qui appartient l'beau temps? and L'Escalier established him in the 1970s, and songs including "Heureux d'un printemps," "Mon Joe," and "L'Escalier" date from that period. Later work such as "Un château de sable," "J'appelle," and "Qu'est-ce que tu vas faire" showed the writing holding up over decades. He is also a longtime environmental campaigner, and in 2002 cycled 550 kilometres to deliver a letter to the Quebec government opposing the construction of small hydroelectric plants on the province's rivers.

Frequently Asked Questions about Paul Piche

What is Paul Piche performing now?

Chansons Intimes, a solo show in which he takes the stage alone with his guitar to revisit his catalogue. He performed it at the Théâtre Jean-Duceppe on June 19, 2026 as part of the Francos de Montréal, drawing on "Heureux d'un printemps," "Y'a pas grand-chose dans l'ciel à soir," "Mon Joe," "Essaye donc pas," "L'escalier," "Moi j'raconte des histoires," "Un château de sable," and "J'appelle."

What can audiences expect at a Paul Piche show?

Reviewers describe a generous performer who talks a great deal between songs, framing each one before he plays it. Some find that framing essential to the evening and others would rather he moved faster; either way, the concerts run long, often two hours without an interval. His voice has held, and audiences consistently remark on it.

Where has Paul Piche performed?

Across Quebec for five decades. One extended run through the province drew more than 75,000 people across over fifty halls, and he returned to Montreal for a fourth time in March 2001 to inaugurate the Théâtre Outremont, staying on the road until that December. He has played the FrancoFolies de Montréal and the FrancoFolies de La Rochelle in France, and appeared at FestiVoix de Trois-Rivières in July 2026.
