Post Animal formed in Chicago in 2014 and has grown into a six-piece in which every member writes, and most of them sing on the songs they wrote. Dalton Allison and Matt Williams started it after moving to the city, joined by Jake Hirshland and Joe Keery, with Wesley Toledo and Javier Reyes arriving over the next two years. The sound runs through psychedelic rock, progressive pop, folk, synth-pop, and classic rock without settling anywhere. Keery left in 2017 as his role in Stranger Things expanded, and the band carried on without him for two albums before he returned for Iron in 2025, the first record in nearly a decade to feature the complete original songwriting lineup.
