Sparta is an American rock band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2001 by Jim Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar in the immediate aftermath of At the Drive-In's breakup. Their sound, described by Pitchfork as anxious, epic guitar rock, paired post-hardcore intensity with sharper melodic writing than their former band, beginning with the 2002 debut Wiretap Scars. The group went on hiatus in 2008 while Ward focused on his alt-country project Sleepercar, reunited briefly from 2011 to 2013, and returned permanently in 2017. Now a trio of Ward, bassist Matt Miller, and drummer Neil Hennessy, they released their sixth album, Cut A Silhouette, on May 29, 2026, recorded in seven days with producer J. Robbins.
