Terror is an American hardcore punk band from Los Angeles, California, formed in April 2002 — one of the most influential and enduring acts in modern hardcore, described by Stereogum as "an institution within their genre." Founded by East Coast transplant Scott Vogel — formerly vocalist of Buffalo, New York acts Despair, Sludgefest, and Buried Alive — who moved to Los Angeles in 2001 after turning down an offer to front 100 Demons. The original lineup included guitarist Todd Jones (Carry On, who later formed Nails), drummer Nick Jett, and bassist Matt Smith; after a four-song demo and a Takeover Records 7", the nine-song EP Lowest of the Low (January 2003, Bridge 9) launched their career. Through lineup changes overseen by founding members Vogel and Jett, Terror has released nine studio albums: One with the Underdogs (2004, Trustkill) sold over 40,000 copies; Always the Hard Way (2006) reached number 10 on the Billboard Heatseekers; Keepers of the Faith (2010, Century Media) became a generation-defining hardcore anthem; Live by the Code (2013), The 25th Hour (2015), and Pain Into Power (2022) followed; and Still Suffer was released in April 2026. Vogel is one of hardcore's most beloved figures — as celebrated for his stage dives and crowd banter ("Vogelisms": "Maximum output! Activate the pit!") as for his music. The current lineup of Vogel, Jett, Martin Stewart and Jordan Posner (guitars), and Chris Linkovich (bass) continues to tour worldwide, having performed across Europe, Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and South America — always with an unwavering commitment to keeping hardcore pure and fun.
