The Ocean Blue are an American indie pop band formed in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 1986 — staples of college rock radio and MTV's 120 Minutes whose jangly, atmospheric dream pop earned them an enduring cult following. Their self-titled debut (July 21, 1989) produced Top Ten college and Modern Rock hits "Between Something and Nothing" and "Drifting, Falling" and reached the Billboard 200. Cerulean (1991) and Beneath the Rhythm and Sound (1993) deepened their dream pop reputation with the beloved "Ballerina Out of Control." Original keyboardist Steve Lau departed in 1994 to found Kinetic Records (later home to Tiesto and BT); Mercury Records signed the band for See the Ocean Blue (1996), introducing guitarist Oed Ronne. After Mercury dropped them following a corporate merger, the band released independent albums before returning to critical acclaim with Ultramarine (2013, Korda Records) and Kings and Queens/Knaves and Thieves (2019). The current lineup is David Schelzel, Bobby Mittan, Oed Ronne, and drummer Peter Anderson.
