About Western Carolina Catamounts Men's Basketball

The Western Carolina Catamounts men's basketball team represents Western Carolina University in NCAA Division I competition as a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon), playing home games at the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The program dates back to the 1928-29 season and holds an all-time Division I record of 639 wins and 811 losses. The program's most notable achievement came in 1996, when the Catamounts won the SoCon Tournament and made their only NCAA Tournament appearance, nearly upsetting first-seed Purdue as a 16 seed before falling 73-71. The program also made history in 1980 when Ronnie Carr hit the first three-point shot in NCAA history. More recently, the Catamounts posted a strong 22-10 record in 2023-24. Under head coach Tim Craft, Western Carolina continues to compete as a mid-tier SoCon program.
