Blues Traveler is a rock band from Princeton, New Jersey that formed in 1987. When they perform live, their fans appreciate their creative segues. They are also known for pioneering the H.O.R.D.E touring music festival. The group is made up of keyboardist Ben Wilson, drummer Brendan Hill, bassist Tad Kinchla, guitarist Chan Kinchla, and harmonica player John Popper. The original bassist Bobby Sheehan died in 1999, and his death, along with Popper’s struggle with obesity, hindered their mainstream success. They were dropped by their major label but worked with independent labels after. Their blues covers album, Traveler’s Blues, was released in 2021 and was nominated for Best Traditional Blues album in 2022. Their follow-up album, Traveler’s Soul, came out in 2023. Blues Traveler started out as a high school garage band and held basement jam sessions to create their first album. They first called themselves The Black Cat Jam and later changed to Blues Traveler.
