Danilo Perez is a pianist, composer, activist, and educator from Panama. His Panamanian roots blend with Latin American jazz and folk as well as African and European impressionism. His musical heritage spans the globe and allows his music to create a bridge between people and their favored genres. Perez has released 11 albums as a leader, but he has also appeared on many recordings as a musician. He has received a U.S. Artists Fellowship, a Smithsonian Legacy Award, and many Grammys. Perez started studying music with his father, a well-known singer, at age 3. By age 10, he was studying classical piano at the Conservatory in Panama. He started working as a professional musician by age 12. In 1989, he became the youngest member of Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nations Orchestra.
