The band Etran de L’Aïr (the Stars of the Aïr) originated in Agadez (northern Niger). This region is known for desert blues music. The musical group came together in 1995 and was founded by Aghaly Migi. In the beginning, there was just an acoustic guitar and an improvised drum - and developed into a full ensemble with electric guitars and a drum kit. As a family collective, Etran de L’Aïr reflects the rich musical tradition of Agadez. This means a lively guitar scene and ceremonial music. Despite its roots in the local wedding and event scene, the band is now part of the mainstream.
