Part science experiment, part fantasy, part abstract art, part music—Grimes is one of those boundary-blurring artists who provoke her fans to rethink and reconsider what they believe they already know. Grimes New Album

Grimes has long been hinting to her fans that a follow-up to her last studio album Miss Anthropocene (2019) will be forthcoming, though the release date has shifted back a few times. Most fans believe now that the new album, to be entitled BOOK 1 (and then purportedly followed by another album, BOOK 2), will possibly come out in late 2024. Grimes has repeatedly taken to social media to apologize to her fans and explain the reasons for the delay: “Ofc I’ll still release BOOK 1 & more. I owe y’all, the artists life is blessed and I take that seriously[…] But! My fam, best friends, and babies get dragged in no matter what i do,’ the narrative doesn’t belong to me. my friends/ fam r my whole Life - this is their battle too.” Reports of difficulties with her record label have also surfaced, possibly suggesting further reasons for the album’s delayed release. With five years since Miss Anthropocene, fans will be intrigued to see how Grimes‘s music has evolved when the album does finally come out.

Grimes Upcoming Events

Grimes has been keeping a low profile for the past few years (finishing up that album, perhaps?), occasionally performing at festivals now and then but not touring or performing regularly. Her only two appearances in 2024 so far were at Coachella (and her first set was a technical disaster) in April and the AXE Ceremonia Festival in March. She is not currently scheduled for any more performances this year in the United States or anywhere else. Grimes 2024 Coachella Review

The last time Grimes went on tour was in 2016 with her globe-trotting AC!D REIGN TOUR, but her performances in recent years have primarily been festival appearances. The artist performed twice at Coachella in April, on the 14th and 21st. The first set was beset by technical issues that left fans bewildered as Grimes scrambled to fix things and to try to explain the problems (and screaming in frustration). Thankfully, the second set went better, without any of the technical issues that had beleaguered the artist on the opening weekend.

Fans who attended Grimes’s first set at Coachella were left somewhat bemused. “This Grimes set has to be the worst in the history of @coachella,” quipped one fan on X (ironically owned by Grimes’s ex-partner Elon Musk). And while the second set did not have the technical issues or embarrassing reactions from Grimes that the first did, some fans remained less than impressed. “Grimes settled for being just another big-stage DJ instead of creating something unique and special for Coachella,” claimed one reviewer. “[F]rankly, she has the potential to do something far more unique.”
