About Heilung

Heilung is an experimental three-member band that plays folk music from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. Their lyrics are based on runic inscriptions from Germans who lived in the Iron and Viking eras. They amplify history from northern Europe during the medieval times. Songs often include themes of Germanic deities, valkyries, and other such entities. The band’s name translates into “healing” in English. Heilung came together in 2014 when Faust, a tattoo artist from Germany, and Juul, a Danish producer, started admiring Faust’s visual tattoo art. Since he specialized in Old Norse tattoos, the pair decided to record some poems and, the band was born. They first performed together at Castlefest in 2017. That performance was recorded and turned into a live album. They often used instruments that were available to people back in the Iron Age, such as drums made from horse skin, bones, and so on.
