Leela James, full name Alechia Janeice Campbell, is an R&B and soul singer/songwriter from Los Angeles. She debuted in the 2000 film Bait starring Jamie Fox singing the song “Work.” She then toured as the opening act for the Black Eyes Peas and Macy Gray in 2004. She sang a posthumous duet with Ray Charles in 2005 and released her debut album later that year, on which she co-wrote most of her songs. James is known for lending her powerful vocals to other singers, such as Moby, on his Wait for Me album. She has seven studio albums, the latest of which was released in 2021. The first single from that album peaked at number three on the R&B Songs chart. James appeared on R&B Divas: Los Angeles in 2014 and 2015 and was inducted as an honorary sorority member of Zeta Phi Beta from Indianapolis, Indiana.
