Most of the original band members have known each other since high school. In 1999, the 5 friends signed their first record deal. Unfortunately, there was no success, and the collaboration ended. The passion for music remained, so in 2001, Maroon 5 started a new attempt: They signed with the independent New York label Octone Records.

Their new endeavor came to fruition in 2002, with the release of their debut album Songs About Jane, which is about Levine's relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
Maroon 5 received a Grammy in the Best New Artist category for their debut album. In 2007, after a long 5 year wait, the second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, was released. During the recordings, the boys received active support from successful producers such as Mike Elizondo, Mark Endert, and Eric Valentine. For the song "It Won't Be Soon Before Long", Maroon 5 received multiple gold and platinum awards as well as a Grammy for "Best Video" ("Makes Me Wonder").

Maroon 5 Controversy
Has Their Music Lost Its Soul? While the debut album was met with enthusiasm, the reviews from the second album onwards varied greatly. The music was too commercial, too radio-friendly, or too auto-tuned for the critics.
“Overexposed is a hit-seeking missile that doesn’t just slaughter Maroon 5’s reputation for sincerity; it festoons its corpse with glitter, hairspray, and Hello Kitty stickers.” — The Washington Post.
However, fans all over globe continue to love the band – who doesn't immediately have a catchy tune from “Moves Like Jagger,” “She Will Be Loved,” “Sugar” or “Payphone”? Are you a Maroon 5 lover and would like to see the talent of the internationally successful band live? Then book your tickets for the Maroon 5 Tour now.
Adam Levine Controversy
Fighting with Chile
Why does Chile hate Maroon 5? Viña del Mar is Latin America’s most significant song festival – the spectacle has occurred annually since 1960. National and international singers come together and celebrate the love of music with fans. Maroon 5 was also honored to perform at this special event in 2020.
At this renowned festival, Adam brought a disappointing atmosphere to the stage for all fans. Chileans are known for singing along to songs with passion, but Levine seemed to dislike this fan applause: “Well, if you want to do my job, go ahead.”
The Chilean actress and singer Denise Rosenthal also criticized Levine's attitude – in a deleted tweet, she posted that Adam "asked that no one looked at him in the face" when in his presence. The post was deleted shortly after publication.
There's also a video from after the show, depicting an upset Levine seemingly engaged in an expletive-laden argument with his manager about the event, saying, "That was the end of the show. No way. That was a TV show that was an hour long. Not a concert."
Since this show, Chile's nation has not spoken so well to the singer and allows jokes on his Insta account. Till this day, Chileans continue to spam Adam Levine's comment section with Chilean recipes, lyrics, or other content unrelated to him.
Cheating on His Pregnant Wife
In 2022 the frontman was accused of cheating on his pregnant wife Behati Prinsloo. She is an Namibian model who is also a Victoria’s Secret Angel.
Instagram model Sumner Stroh shared DMs between her and the singer on TikTok and stated that they had an affair for over a year. To date, he has not confirmed the allegations, only saying that he has "crossed the line" and that his family is the most important thing in his life and he is doing everything to keep and protect them.
