Who Is Ethel Cain?
Ethel Cain is an American singer-songwriter who hails from Tallahassee, Florida whose real name is Hayden Silas Anhedönia (born Hayden Silas Homer). Some deem her musical style as Southern Gothic and the 26-year-old reminds some listeners of other artists like Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, Chelsea Wolfe, King Woman, and Lana Del Rey.
Is Ethel Cain trans? At the age of 12, Anhedönia came out to her family as gay, and then on her 20th birthday, she came out publicly as a trans woman. She is also a Southern Baptist and autistic, so she lives a unique and unapologetic dichotomy of a young woman’s life.
After her trilogy albums have all been released, Anhedönia has plans to release a book and a film that tells the full story behind Hayden’s alter ego Ethel Cain—the fictional daughter of a preacher created back in 2018—and her hit debut album Preacher’s Daughter.
When Does Ethel Cain’s New Album Drop?
The sophomore studio album—although she refuses to call it an “album”—from Ethel Cain, titled Perverts, is scheduled to come out on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Cain shared news of the new album and its cover artwork on Instagram after slowly teasing its release with black-and-white images on IG and Tumbler.
In talking about Perverts in an interview with Rolling Stone, Anhedönia said that the new LP will expand on the storytelling of Ethel Cain and the story behind her mother as she deals with the death of her daughter and described the upcoming album as being dark and cold.
She also talked about the planned third release (album) in the trilogy which will delve into the life of Ethel’s grandmother which will further expand on this fictional family. So Perverts is the musical and creative bridge between Preacher’s Daughter and the eventual third release in this Ethel Cain Cinematic Universe trilogy.
Album’s First Single “Punish” Released on November 1
The first single of Perverts, “Punish” was released on November 1 and it will be the second song on the eight-track album following the title track. The song is 6 minutes and 40 seconds long and it was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Cain and mastered by Dale Becker.
The accompanying video for “Punish,” directed by Cain and Silken Weinberg is a drone-like black-and-white ambient trance that lyrically explores the theme of shame. Give it a listen:

What Was Ethel Cain’s First Album?
Ethel Cain’s first studio album was Preacher’s Daughter and it was released on May 12, 2022 and had 13 songs including the singles “Gibson Girl,” “Strangers,” and “American Teenager.” The album was released on Cain’s independent Daughters of Cain (via AWAL) record label and was produced by Cain with the exception of two songs where Matthew Tomasi provided assistance.
Has Ethel Cain Been Touring?
Cain recently concluded her The Childish Behavior Tour. It was her third concert tour performed and produced by Cain. Her first tour was called The Freezer Bride Tour and kicked off on July 14 in Bloomington, Indiana and ended on December 7, 2022 in London, England, UK.
