Fally Ipupa's Rise to Stardom
Fally Ipupa N’simba was born on December 14th, 1977 in Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. His father Faustin Ebombo Ipupa and his mother Monique Bolotuli Mbo encouraged him in music at an early age. Ipupa started his music career on the streets of Kinshasa and learned to play instruments from scrap materials, with friends.
Before the 1990s, Ipupa used to perform on the streets with homemade musical instruments. The first significant move in the music industry was in 1997 when he joined Talents Latents and made his television appearance with their album Nouvelle Vague.
His big break came in 1999 when he joined the famous Koffi Olomide’s band known as Quartier Latin International. This came about when Olomide was in search of replacement musicians after his band had a fallout. Ipupa became a favorite almost immediately and was granted many special privileges that other members were not given.
For the seven years he worked with Quartier Latin, Ipupa moved from being a backing vocalist to the conductor and arranger. This period was critical in the development of his musical style and in getting him ready for a solo act. Ipupa wanted a solo album and after some negotiations, Olomide agreed to it.
In 2006, Ipupa began his solo career which was a turning point in his music career and his financial status. His first solo album Droit Chemin came into the market with the help of the producer David Monsoh of Obouo Music.

Some of his popular songs are “Original,” “Eloko Oyo,” and “Sexy Dance.” His sophomore album which was released in 2017, Tokooos, took his music to another level with features from Starboy Wizkid, Booba, and MHD.
