With brand deals across industries, impressive music curation skills, and a whirlwind romance with socialite Kylie Jenner, Travis Scott has established himself as an insurmountable presence, not to be overlooked.
From Beyonce to Megan Thee Stallion, Houston is the proud home to this generation’s superstars. Travis Scott, rapper, producer and business mogul is a distinguished member on this list. With his music, Travis has established an artistic universe associated with experimental melodies and concert ragers.
Jacques Bermon Webster, named after his father, or as he is renowned, Travis Scott comes from a family of musicians, his father a soul musician, and his grandfather, a jazz musician. With experience performing in musical theatre in high school, Travis dropped out to chase his music dreams full-time in his second year of college.
Today, the 32-year-old rapper lives as one of the most innovative hip-hop voices in the music industry. With a net worth of $80 million, Travis has successfully grown from sleeping on his friend’s couch to making music with the most talented musicians in the world.
Travis Scott 2018: ASTROWORLD
Describing Travis Scott’s musical style is not an easy feat, however, the word experimental does come close. With his distinctive production and psychedelic melodies, he constantly redefines the hip-hop genre, blending the diverse elements of rap and trap to create his own sound.
In May 2013, Travis made his official debut with Owl Pharaoh, his solo mixtape. This mixtape bagged a nomination for Bext Mixtape at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. Since then, he has enjoyed a steady rise to the top, receiving attention in 2017 for his feature on SZA’s Love Galore. But, it wasn’t until the release of ASTROWORLD, his critically acclaimed third studio album in 2018, that Travis climbed to the pinnacle of the hip-hop ladder.
ASTROWORLD, named after an abandoned theme park in Houston, is a hypnotic sonic journey. Scott’s curation merges seamless transitions and an assembly of iconic features, including Drake, Kanye West, Frank Ocean, and The Weeknd, along with his musical inspirations, Kid Cudi and Kanye West.
ASTROWORLD remains Scott’s most honored and nominated project. The album won “Album of the Year” for BET Hip Hop Awards, and was nominated for several award shows such as the American Music Awards, Juno Awards, Billboard Awards, and Grammy Awards.
Travis Scott 2023: UTOPIA
With the success of ASTROWORLD, expectations were high for Travis Scott’s next project: UTOPIA, which was released on July 28, 2023. Utopia introduces features from superstars like Bad Bunny, Future, Swae Lee, SZA, and Beyonce. The album is a mind-blowing rock project.
Again, Scott steps outside of the norm by incorporating pop music with tracks like DELRESTO (ECHOES) with Beyonce and expanding his hip-hop style with the Drake feature, MELTDOWN.
The album was nominated for “Top Rap Album” at the Billboard Music Awards, and has a pending nomination for the “Best Rap Album” at the 2024 Grammy Awards. As the award season is around the coroner fans are anticipating other nominations for Utopia.
He also released a visual companion to the album titles, Circus Maximus, co-written, produced and directed by Travis Scott himself. Look no further than Youtube or Apple Music to watch his directorial debut.
Travis Scott Concert: Ragers and Mosh Pits
Scott’s reputation as a performer has earned his fans the name, Ragers. His concerts have been described as an immersive blockbuster party experience, controlled by Scott’s high energy. His 2023 CIRCUS MAXIMUS TOUR achieved immense success, leading to an extension tour in 2024. Tickets for this tour are fast-selling, but don’t fret. TicketX provides the easiest way to get cheap Travis Scott tickets.
The setlist for the CIRCUS MAXIMUS STADIUM TOUR includes fan favorites like Goosebumps, Highest in the Room, and Sicko Mode. Goosebumps is a hip-hop track released in 2016 under the album Birds in the Trap Sing Mcknight.
Travis Scott’s image as a performer has received a plethora of reactions. In April 2020, with no possibility of physical concerts, Travis Scott collaborated with Fortnite to produce Astronomical, an immersive gaming and musical experience. With Fortnite, Scott exceeded expectations for an online concert, closing the show with a debut performance of his new single with Kid Cudi, The Scotts.
With a record of 27.7 unique million players, the concert remains one of Fortnite’s most successful events.
However, not all of Scott's live performances have been positively critiqued and lauded. His concerts have been labeled as manic mosh pits. In 2018, the rapper pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after he was arrested for inciting a riot.
Travis Scott Brand Deals and Collaborations
Beyond the musical universe he has created, Travis Scott is no stranger to the world of shoes and sneakers. In 2018, the rapper’s creative involvement in the industry was uncovered with his official collaboration with Nike.
Some of his popular shoe collections include the Jordan x Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 Low sneakers that go for around $2,721 and the Nike x Travis Scott SB Dunk Low sneakers for around $1,841.
Notably, the launch of Scott’s Air Max 1 with Nike was marred by the tragedy of the 2021 Astroworld festival, which temporarily suspended Scott’s relationship with Nike.
Scott has also dabbled in the food franchise business. In September 2020, McDonalds announced the Travis Scott meal, the first signature McDonalds meal in almost 30 years since the McJordans.
The Travis Scott meal includes a Sprite that goes well with a fresh beef quarter patty with cheese, crisp lettuce, medium World Famous Fries, bacon, and BBQ sauce to dip. It was inspired by Scott’s favorite meal growing up.
