Lefty SM, also known as Juan Carlos Sauceda, is one of the latest unfortunate artists to join the long list of murdered rappers. Lefty was shot twice at his home and confirmed dead at the hospital by his record label, Alzada Records. Gone at 31, Lefty left behind a legion of loyal fans and a prolific discography that makes even his biggest haters jealous.

Lefty SM Life

Juan Carlos Sauceda was born in 1992 in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico. There was not much to learn about his youth, but he started his music career at a young age by posting his music to YouTube. Lefty SM found his first breakthrough in 2017 after the release of the classic Good and Bad in collaboration with Santa Fe Klan. Lefty went on to release multiple platinum-worthy hits such as “Si me caigo, “Con los ojos rojos, and “Por mi México.” Lefty also owned a chain of barber shops called 50°Grados Barber Shop, contributing significantly to his $500,000 net worth.

According to the police, Lefty SM was shot by three gunmen at his home in the Zapopan suburban area. There are many theories surrounding his demise, but many think this is a targeted attack instead of a robbery gone wrong. The murder remains unsolved after months of investigation, but the public will never forget his music. Ten thousand fans, families, and friends showed up at Chapultepec Street to mourn the sudden death of the Uber superstar. They sang, waved Mexican flags, and did motor tricks, everything Lefty would love to see in his honor to ensure his legacy would never die.

Lefty SM Music

Lefty’s early work reflects San Luis’s bilingual culture that is heavily influenced by Old School Hip Hop with G-Funk beat and lowrider cruise. Over time, Lefty music evolved and featured more contemporary hip-hop sound. Let’s take a look at some of his most iconic tracks:

  • “Por Mi México” feat. Santa Fe Klan: Lefty’s first break-out classic. The song features catchy Mexican pride lyrics with a boom-bap hip-hop beat. It is raw and aggressive and Lefty with his illest flow.

  • “Ahora Estoy Mejor” feat. Carin León: This song shows a different side of Lefty with melodic guitar and a traditional vocalist. It was released in March 2022, but it has already hit 25 million views as of this week.

  • “Barrio” - That Mexican OT feat. Lefty SM: OT and Lefty masterfully blend their Tejano roots with modern 808 drums. This bilingual masterpiece represents not just Hip Hop’s future but also American culture’s future.
