Saturday Night Live Season 50
Few if any American TV shows have had the kind of social impact and created comedic and musical stars like NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and the Lorne Michaels created and produced classic is now on SNL Season 50 and boasting quite the lineup of hosts and the SNL tonight host and musical guests for the first five shows of the 2024 Fall season.

The late-night sketch comedy premiered its fiftieth season on Saturday, September 28 with host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll. The current SNL cast includes repertory players Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Michael Longfellow, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Devon Walker, and Bowen Yang.
Three new SNL cast members were added on September 9, Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline. SNL will also serve up acknowledgments this season, climaxing with a special three-hour 50th anniversary retrospective airing on February 16, 2025.

SNL Musical Guests List For 50th Anniversary
The SNL musical guests for the first five episodes (969 to 973) are a wonderful combination of genres and offer up something for all generations. Popular country artist Jelly Roll, iconic British rock band Coldplay, ageless American rock songstress Stevie Nicks, young American sensation Billie Eilish, and new American sensation Chappell Roan will grace the historic stage at Studio 8H which has seen most of the greatest names in musical history perform two songs since its 1975 debut.
Landing an invitation to be an SNL musical guest is a huge honor, and it gives artists a chance to showcase new or old tunes, promote their careers, and display their talents to many viewers who have never heard or seen them before.
One of the longest-running US network TV programs in history, SNL is also one of the very rare shows that actually airs live, meaning musical guests need to have their acts fine-tuned before that famous “ON AIR” light goes on blinking on Saturday nights.
Here is a closer look at the hosts and musical guests for the first five episodes of this historic 50th season.
September 28: Jean Smart and Jelly Roll
The 50th season premiere and Saturday Night Live season opener aired Saturday, September 28 with 73-year-old actress and six-time Primetime Emmy Award winner Jean Smart (Designing Women) hosting and 39-year-old country music meteor Jelly Roll as the musical guest.
Promoting his new Beautifully Broken album, Jelly Roll performed two of the new songs from that upcoming October 11 release, Liar and Winning Streak. The Nashville native is in the middle of the first leg of his Beautifully Broken Tour which features Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay.
Leg 1 started at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, August 27, and runs through October 27 with a show at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC. The second leg of the Jelly Roll tour kicks off at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia on Wednesday October 30 with ERNEST, Shaboozey, and Allie Colleen and ends at the Vystar Veteran Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, November 23.
October 5: Nate Bargatze and Coldplay
On the Saturday, October 5 episode on SNL, 25-year-old American stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze was hosted by rock legends Coldplay as the much-anticipated musical act.
Both were in the middle of tours with Bargatze—a Nashville resident like Jelly Roll—in The Be Funny Tour and coming off shows at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas before continuing on the tour after his SNL appearance at the Yaamava Theater at Yaamava Resort and Casino Complex in Highland, California on Friday, October 18.
London-based quartet Coldplay, who has had major hits with songs like Adventure of a Lifetime, A Sky Full of Stars, and Viva La Vida, is in the midst of its ongoing World of Spheres Tour and will head Down Under to Australia after their musical guest’s appearance on SNL where they will play at Marvel Stadium in Docklands, Victoria from October 30 to November 3. October 12: Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks
There will be two musical icons on the Saturday, October 12 episode on SNL, with pop princess Ariana Grande getting the hosting gig and former Fleetwood Mac gypsy Stevie Nicks appearing in one of the most-anticipated episodes of the 50th season. Will Ariana sing with Stevie? Odds say no, but you never know so you better tune in.
The now 76-year-old Nicks is the songbird behind such solo hits as Stand Back. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around (with Tom Petty), Edge of Seventeen, and Fleetwood Mac gems like Landslide, Rhiannon, Gypsy, and Silver Springs, so she’ll have many classics to choose from.
For now, Nicks only has one concert scheduled for 2025, but it’s a big one. October 19: Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish
On the Saturday, October 19 episode on SNL, Michael Keaton will be the guest host with Billie Eilish serving as the musical guest. The 22-year-old Eilish is currently in the midst of her Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour and will be performing two shows at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 2 and November 3.
November 2: John Mulaney and Chappell Roan
The Saturday, November 2 SNL episode will see John Mulaney as host with the pride of Willard, Missouri, and Chappell Roan, as musical guests. Roan is currently on tour and will be at the Crescent Ballroom In Phoenix on Wednesday, November 27 if you want to see her.
