Who Are the Players to Watch at This Year’s Wimbledon?
Heading into Wimbledon, which has been held since 1877, the defending champions and top seeds will be the players to keep your eyes on with upsets by underdogs and longshots prevalent through the tournament but less frequent in the last two rounds of play.
Who won Wimbledon 2024? Last year, Carlos Alvarez and Barbora Krejčíková were the Singles champs. Alvarez defeated Novak Djokovic In the Gentleman’s Final, winning in three sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), while Krejčíková topped Jasmine Paolini in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to capture the Women’s bracket.
It was the second straight Men’s championship at Wimbledon for Spanish sensation Alcarez who comes in this year as the No. 2-seed but the oddsmakers favorite again in London in the Men’s Futures market priced at +130 (bet $100 win $130) on the money line with top-seed Jannik Skinner (+175) and legend Djokovic (+650) following.
Defending Ladies champ Krejčíková (75/1 to win 2025 Wimbledon, DraftKings) had a thigh injury and didn’t play in the Eastbourne Open but the Czech Republic star will also be back on the iconic English grass and is the No. 17 seed in the Wimbledon Draw.
In the Ladies’ bracket the woman to beat will be Belarussian Aryna Sabalenka (42-8 in 2025) who is the No. 1 seed as well as the oddsmakers favorite (+250) heading into Wimbledon. Coming off her win in the French Open, American Gauff is the No. 2 seed and the bookmaker’s third choice at +750. 2022 winner Elena Rybakina (+550) is the oddsmaker’s second choice and the Russian is the No. 11 seed in the Wimbledon Draw.
Other Ladies players to watch at Wimbledon include Australian Open winner and No. 6- seed Keys (18/1), American No. 3-seed Jessica Pegula (32/1), Polish star and No. 8-seed Iga Świątek (+950), and China’s Qinwen Zheng (26/1), the No. 5-seed.
