What Happened at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships

The 136th Wimbledon Championships saw the Gentlemen's Singles bracket end up with the oddsmakers' top two favorites heading into a meeting in the Final, while in the Women's Singles bracket, a monster odds longshot shocked the Tennis universe. Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic entered the world's oldest tournament as a prohibitive -150 favorite to win the Gentlemen's Singles title, with Spanish whizkid Carlos Alcarez being the bookie's second favorite at +350 odds (7/2). In a memorable match that went all five sets, Alcarez outlasted Djokovic 1-6, 7-5 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to get the silverware.

In the Women’s Singles championship match on the hallowed grass courts, Czech Markéta Vondroušová defeated Tunisian Oris Jabeur in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, to etch her name in the history books in a showdown between two Wimbledon Tennis odds longshots.

Polish phenom Iga Świątek came into the 2023 Wimbledon Championships as the favorite in the Women’s Singles competition at +250 betting odds. Still, it was Jabeur (14/1) and Vondroušová (80/1) who stole the show with the 24-year-old southpaw from Sokolov in the Czech Republic, Vondroušová, becoming the first unseeded woman in history to capture the Wimbledon Singles title and reward her lucky Futures book betting backers at those mind-boggling 80/1 Wimbledon Tennis odds. Never say never.

2024 Wimbledon Tennis Odds — Men’s, Women's Singles

The Wimbledon Tennis Odds Men’s and Women’s markets offer two distinct betting opportunities with the Men’s winner being more predictable the last five years—Djokovic four straight titles from 2018 to 2022 and Alcarez in 2023—with seven winners the last seven times in the Women’s Singles bracket, with the aforementioned Vondroušová (2023), Elena Rybakina (2022), Ashleigh Barty (2021), Simona Halep (2019), Angelique Kerber (2018), Garbiñe Muguruza (2017) and Serena Williams (2016).

So, doing some homework and looking for a newcomer—WTA No. 1 ranked Świątek or maybe No. 3 ranked and defending US Open champ Coco Gauff—may be the best handicapping approach in the ladies bracket this time around. It is hard to see Vondroušová, although currently ranked No. 6 in the WTA, defending her title here.

Here are the current Wimbledon Tennis Odds from DraftKings sportsbook for prospective Men’s and Women’s Singles players with odds of 80/1 or under.

2024 Wimbledon Championships Women’s Singles Draw Best Bets

The Wimbledon Tennis Odds Women’s Singles favorites will likely fare much better this July compared to last year when we saw Vondroušová and Jabeur surprise everyone and give us a sixth ladies champion in the previous six years. Don’t expect a repeat performance.

With Aryna Sabalenka (3/1) and Iga Świątek (7/2) still looking for their first championship at Wimbledon, as well as talented young players like Coco Gauff (8/1), Naomi Osaka (14/1), and Jessica Pegula (14/1), we should see a seventh face in seven years smiling on Centre Court.

Defending champion Markéta Vondroušová (14/1), 2023 runner-up Oris Jabeur (14/1) and 2022 champ Elena Rybakina (11/2) should make the final 16 with Mirra Andreeva (16/1) an up-and-comer to watch but likely facing a treacherous path in England.

With the exceptional 22-year-old Świątek riding a 12-match win streak into the French Open and French Open (2020, 2022, 2023) and US Open (2022) titles under her belt, winning here at Wimbledon and in Australia are all this young Polish player from a career Grand Slam.

Sabalenka is the deserved Wimbledon Tennis Odds favorite for this tournament. If she and Świątek are on opposite sides of the bracket, we may be in for a fantastic Women’s Singles Final upstream. Lifetime, Świątek is 8-3 head-to-head against Sabalenka, winning 19 of the 27 sets they have played.

The 2024 Wimbledon Women's Singles Final is set on Center Court on Saturday, July 13.

2024 Wimbledon Championships Men’s Singles Draw Best Bets

Wimbledon Tennis Odds Men’s Singles favorites Carlos Alcarez (+175) and Novak Djokovic (+190) are generally recognized as the two best Grass players on the planet, so it was no coincidence that these heavy hitters met in the 2023 Wimbledon Men’s Finals.

But will these two be meeting again in all-white in front of the strawberries and cream-eating patrons at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club again this summer? Djokovic is ranked No. 1 in the latest ATP Tour rankings, with Alcarez at No. 2—Jannik Sinner (+330) is No. 2—so a rematch of last year's classic may be in order.

And expect the now 37-year-old Djokovic—his birthday was May 22—to look for some revenge after Alcarez topped him in five sets last time here. Lifetime, Djokovic is 3-2 head-to-head against Alcarez, and Djokovic beat Alcarez in two straight meetings after losing to him here at Wimbledon last July, in the ATP Master Cincinnati 1000 Final and in the Nitro ATP Finals Semifinals.

At the time of this writing, Djokovic was 14-5 in all Singles matches in 2024, while Alcarez was 18-5, having won the 2024 Indian Wells Open title in March. Both Djokovic (No. 1 seed and defending champion) and Alcarez (No. 3 seed) are currently playing in the 2024 French Open in Paris and could very well meet in the Men's Final at Roland Garros.

Despite Wimbledon hopefuls Daniil Medvedev (12/1), Rafael Nadal (16/1), and Alexander Zverev (18/1), expect Djokovic and Alcarez to meet again at Centre Court unless Sinner can upset the apple cart.

The 2024 Wimbledon Men's Singles Final on Centre Court is slated for Sunday, July 14.
