In 2007, the band officially made their debut with their studio album, Oracular Spectacular. They went on to dominate the 2000s charts with dancefloor hits while offering a representation of the life of a teenager in the second millennium. Starting as a duo, founding members Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser never quite anticipated the success of their debut album.

With its opening track, Time to Pretend, which has been regarded by Paste magazine as one of the best album openers in history, the album was produced by American record producer Dave Friddman. Likewise, the album’s single, Kids, remains their most streamed song on Spotify, with over 740 million streams. This album earned them several nominations at the Grammy Awards, NME Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards between 2008 and 2010.
