Rich Men North of Richmond
Oliver Anthony made history in 2023, as the first-ever independent artist to have a single debut at the top of the US’s Billboard Hot 100. That single, “Rich Men North of Richmond,” was a massive overnight hit online, going viral just days after Anthony released the song online in August of 2023. While the song was claimed by the Republican Party as reflective of its values, Anthony strongly rejected this polarizing classification, stating that he had both the Democratic and Republican parties in his sights with its strong criticism of corruption and elitism in America. However you look at it, Anthony’s self-penned lyrics about the working man’s struggles and his gritty but beautiful singing voice, all set to the earthy twangling of his acoustic resonator guitar, have struck a chord across the country, launching the artist into overnight fame. Oliver Anthony recently released his first studio album Hymnal of a Troubled Man's Mind (release date: March 31, 2024) and will soon be heading out on tour to promote the album.
Tour Name: Oliver Anthony Out of the Woods Tour 2024
Tour Dates: February 1 - October 6
Quick on the heels of his unexpected overnight viral sensation “Rich Men North of Richmond,” Oliver Anthony found himself embarking on a tour not just across his own United States but internationally as well. The Out of the Woods Tour was named partially to poke fun at his humble beginnings as an artist, but it kicked off in style with a February jaunt across Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, and the UK before returning to American soil on February 21 for a pair of concerts at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Along with a brief trip to Australia in March, the tour has hit major venues and festivals in the ensuing months, including NRG Stadium (Houston, Texas), First National Bank Arena (Jonesboro, Arkansas), Greensboro Coliseum (Greensboro, North Carolina), Barefoot Country Music Fest (Wildwood, New Jersey), and Levitate Music Festival (Marshfield, Massachusetts). There are still a few dates left, with stops planned for the Bash on the Bay Country Music Fest (Put in Bay, Ohio), Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park (Indianapolis, Indiana), and Borealis Theater (Palmer, Alaska), among others, before winding things up at the Utah State Fairpark in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 6.
While Oliver Anthony’s music is definitely country music, and quite old-fashioned country music at that, the message behind his songs seems to have transcended genre (and race) in America in a way that only rare singers do. His concerts throughout the year have proven extremely popular, frequently selling out well in advance. Based on typical tour concerts from his Out of the Woods Tour this year such as his May 31 appearance in Pelham, Tennessee at The Caverns, Oliver Anthony tends to perform for about an hour and a half, though this obviously varies based on venue, situation, and whether the artist is performing alone or as part of a festival or group.
We can get a pretty good idea of Oliver Anthony’s tour setlist if we check out a setlist from his performance at the Beaver Dam Amphitheater in Beaver Dam, Kentucky on May 4, one of his tour concerts early this year. Most of the songs are taken from Anthony’s debut album Hymnal of a Troubled Man's Mind.

Tour Name: Oliver Anthony Out of the Woods Tour 2024
With the majority of his 2024 Out of the Woods Tour now complete, Oliver Anthony has been on a whirlwind tour across three continents this year (quite the change from “workin’ long hours for bulls pay”!). Fans worldwide have responded rapturously to his live performances, turning out in huge numbers largely in response to his viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond.” according to staticnoisemag.com, one reviewer who attended the artist’s concert at CMAC in Canandaigua, NY on June 22 called Oliver Anthony’s performance described it as “a night of unity and hope” and praised Anthony’s displays of gratitude and warmth to his audience as well as the beauty of the music. The reviewer also remarked upon the rest of the band, particularly the excellence of the violin player, as well as the moving backdrop, a black and white photograph of Anthony’s ancestors in Appalachia. Another reviewer from houstonchronicle.com who saw Oliver Anthony perform at RodeoHouston in front of nearly 50,000 fans said that the concert proved that the artist is the real deal and has much more to offer than just one viral hit. His voice, said the reviewer, “pierces the air, unvarnished and dense.”
One reviewer from therotundaonline.com who was at Oliver Anthony’s concert at the Joan Perry Brock Center in Anthony’s home of Farmville, Virginia on October 28, 2023, did say that he found Anthony’s performance style somewhat odd, with the artist performing barefoot and being accompanied by his three dogs. He also found Anthony’s pre-concert Bible reading and complaints about the state of the country to be quite “off-putting,” and some of the song lyrics to be less than stellar, though he did admit that there was no denying that the sound of the music was incredible. This was also quite early in Oliver Anthony’s very new professional music career (pre-tour).
Following his overnight rise to fame with “Rich Men North of Richmond,” many were surprised to see Oliver Anthony make an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), the world’s most popular podcast. Rogan and Anthony spoke for 2.5 hours on all manner of topics, giving fans a better idea of who Anthony is as a person beyond his music. Many were surprised to find him to be far more central politically than they had assumed from assumptions based on his music.
While it is very difficult to estimate Oliver Anthony’s current net worth due to the unprecedentedly rapid nature of his rise to fame, the Distractify website suggested in August 2023 that Oliver Anthony’s net worth at that time was probably somewhere between $1-2 million. With 2024 including a tour and ever-increasing song royalties, it seems safe to say that Oliver Anthony’s net worth is now magnitudes higher, though online estimates are difficult to find and his refusal to sign with major record labels (for now) has somewhat limited his growth in wealth (he is also known for living off-grid and very modestly). Nonetheless, takings from streaming, touring, and various appearances are no doubt leading to quite the fortune for the young man.
Adding up Oliver Anthony’s annual income precisely is no easy task (especially as this will be his first full year as a professional musician) but given that we do know that his songs are streamed about 600,000 times per day (according to Spotify estimates from July 5, 2024), we can assume that Oliver Anthony likely pulls in about $2,400 every day from streaming alone. If correct, this would mean that Oliver Anthony’s annual streaming income could be as much as $900,000.
Touring and performing live in 2024 should make this year a very lucrative one for Oliver Anthony. If we assume that he makes $20,000 per concert or festival appearance, Oliver Anthony’s nearly 60 concerts in 2024 should bank the artist at least $1.2 million and possibly much more.
Factor in merchandising, royalties, appearance fees, and other sources of income and Oliver Anthony should pull in upwards of $2.5 million of income in 2024.
Calculating annual income and net worth is a difficult undertaking when it comes to musicians due to the complexities of accounting for income from many different sources (ticket sales, recording royalties, assets, merchandising, endorsements, etc.). Most financial information is also confidential and not shared with the public. For new artists like Oliver Anthony, there is also a lack of references for previous years.
