Hailing from North Carolina, Parmalee is a country band made up of family members: brothers singer-guitarist Matt Thomas and drummer Scott Thomas (his brother) along with their cousins, bassist Barry Knox and guitarist Josh McSwain. Parmalee started out as a mostly local band that released some low-key albums and toured the state, but their careers really took off in the 2010s, following a horrific shooting during a robbery in which Scott Thomas was seriously injured. The band went on to record three studio albums in Nashville which all soared up into the US Country charts. Parmalee soon became one of the country’s fastest-rising new (even though they weren’t exactly “new”) bands, gaining both critical acclaim and commercial success for their earthy rhythms and heartfelt lyrics.
