The Ronny Chieng review, from the Houston Chronicle stated that he performed at the Cullen Performance Hall on March 1.
Fans appreciated Ronny Chieng as a “breath of fresh air” as far as Asian comedians go. Some stated that he flips the script on stereotypes and makes what would be stale jokes sound fresh and outside the box. Fans also like that he talks about current issues, but it helps that he isn’t from America and has references for how good Americans have it. His joke delivery, timing, gestures, and expressions were spot on.
Some fans found his performance decent but not as funny as his Netflix specials. They reported that he seemed tense and perhaps even frustrated and definitely nervous. Fans even felt a little uncomfortable by his demeanor at times.
