The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California with a group of brothers, cousins, and friends. They are known for their harmonies and adolescent lyrics, but they are one of the most influential bands in the rock era. They also used innovative recording techniques and jazz elements in their music. The Beach Boys started out as a garage band and had their first hit in 1963 as “Surfin’ U.S.A.” spread into the top 10. They put out what people called the “California sound” and they were one of few bands that sustained their success during the British Invasion. The group made numerous movies in addition to their musical ventures.
