TWICE

TWICE, dubbed "The Nation's Girl Group" in South Korea, has significantly impacted the global music scene since their debut in 2015. Achieving fame with their 2016 single "Cheer Up" and continuing their success with "TT," they quickly rose to prominence, selling over 1.2 million units within 19 months of their debut and over 15 million albums in South Korea and Japan by 2022. Their expansion into Japan brought record-breaking sales and platinum certifications. Globally, TWICE has topped Billboard's World Albums and World Digital Song Sales charts, entered the Canadian Hot 100, and achieved five top-ten albums on the US Billboard 200. Their English-language single "The Feels" marked their entry into the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Known for their viral point choreography, TWICE has left a lasting mark on the music industry, showcasing their international appeal and influence.

How did TWICE rise to fame?

TWICE's rise to fame is a story of strategic planning, talent, and a series of breakthrough moments that captured the global music scene's attention. The journey began with JYP Entertainment's announcement in 2013 of its intent to debut a new girl group, the first since Miss A in 2010. The formation of TWICE was ultimately decided through the reality competition show "Sixteen," broadcast in 2015, which determined the final lineup of nine members, expanding from the initially planned seven. This decision included the addition of Tzuyu and Momo despite initial controversies. TWICE debuted in October 2015 with their EP "The Story Begins" and its lead single "Like Ooh-Ahh." While their debut received critical acclaim, the group's presence quickly grew, thanks to the single's reverse run on music charts, propelled by word-of-mouth regarding their performances. This phenomenon was unusual for a rookie group and set the stage for their subsequent rise to fame. 2016 was a pivotal year, marking TWICE's breakthrough with their second EP "Page Two" and its hit single "Cheer Up." The song's viral success, fueled by memorable lines like "shy shy shy," and its chart-topping performance solidified TWICE's position in the K-pop industry. The group's recognition expanded internationally, with "Cheer Up" achieving notable success on Billboard charts and TWICE winning their first music program award, further establishing their popularity. TWICE continued to build on their success with the release of "Twicecoaster: Lane 1" and the single "TT," which saw significant commercial success both domestically and internationally, setting records and earning awards for the group. Their debut in Japan in 2017 with the compilation album "#TWICE" marked another milestone, leading to record-breaking sales, platinum certifications, and further establishing TWICE as a leading K-pop girl group in Japan. This was bolstered by their continuous success in Korea with albums like "Twicetagram" and its hit single "Likey," alongside their expansion into the US market. TWICE's rise to fame is characterized by strategic releases, viral hits, and a strong international presence, supported by their memorable choreographies and the strong connection they've built with fans globally, aptly named "Once."
