Now called the Berglund Center, this Roanoke-based coliseum, ever since its inception in 1971, has been the cornerstone of community and entertainment in Western Virginia. It was originally set up as a dedicated sports arena and then evolved into a versatile, multi-purpose venue that accommodates a variety of events.
In several years, the center has been through substantial redevelopments and expansions, which have done well to enhance the provided facilities and keep tabs on changing entertainment demands. On the back of its versatility, it has played host to professional hockey and basketball games, concerts, and community functions.
In 2014, the Berglund Coliseum underwent one of its most symbolic transformations ever. Rebranding to the Berglund Center was done to reflect its more encompassing mission as a hub for all-around fun. The change signaled a renewed commitment to serve the growing diversity of needs of Roanoke and its environs.
Past entertainment, however, the venue plays a critical role in fostering civic pride and community spirit. Along these lines, it has served as a convention center for high school graduation ceremonies, charity fundraisers, and other local events that solidify its status as a cultural landmark. Today, it stands testament to the essence of communal gathering and city culture.
The venue hosts concerts in an extensive range of music genres, even from artists like Parker McCollum. It has previously welcomed shows like Disney on Ice: Find Your Hero, which has been one of the most recurring events on the premises.
On Thursday, April 18th, 2024, Parker McCollum will perform live at the Berglund Coliseum. Parker is a singer and songwriter who won the New Male Artist of the Year award at the American Country Music Awards. In March 2022, he performed for the first time at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to a 73,243-person attendance.
In May, the venue will host the Tacoritos Festival, Leonid and Friends Festival in the Park, and 1964 the Tribute. Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt will perform in June and November, respectively.
