BEAT is a rather complicated band to explain, as they are a sort of tribute band to the much-loved British progressive rock band King Crimson, but a tribute band involving two of the band’s former members, guitar virtuoso Adrian Belew and multi-talented bass player Tony Levin, along with a pair of other musicians: drummer Danny Carey and guitarist Steve Vai. The name of the new band, BEAT, is taken from King Crimson’s hit 1982 album Beat, and their forthcoming 2024 concerts are set to feature King Crimson songs from that era. Belew is no stranger to his former band’s back catalog, having returned to King Crimson songs numerous times over the years during his solo career and stints with other bands. Now well into their 70s, Belew and Levin are still on top of their game when on stage, filling the air with nostalgia and fantastic rock and roll. According to reports from fans who have attended concerts on BEAT’s current 2024 tour, the band does not have any openers or supporting acts performing with them at the moment. The four members of BEAT just hit the stage and start rockin’ out. Keep checking back on TicketX for updates on BEAT concerts.
BEAT concerts on their current ongoing 2024 tour have reportedly lasted from 2 hours to 2 hours and 20 minutes (not bad for four guys well into their silver years!). Doors generally open about an hour before the show starts, so be sure to get there early. The band generally starts right on time.
While the full repertoire of King Crimson spans multiple decades from the 1960s until the 2020s, with the band forming and reforming countless times, BEAT has chosen to focus solely on the band’s three albums of the 1980s (Discipline, Beat, Three of a Perfect Pair). Fans have reported a few surprises from other eras of the band (mostly earlier) and have been particularly delighted by tribute songs to the longest-serving member of King Crimson, Robert Fripp. Please be advised that BEAT's tour setlist may change depending on concert venues and dates. The following setlist is taken from the BEAT's concert at The United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles, California on November 10, 2024, based on data from setlist.fm.
