Beetlejuice - The Musical is based on a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King and includes music and lyrics by Eddie King. It is also based on the 1988 film and centers around a deceased couple who haunt new inhabitants of their old home with the help of the devious ghost Betelgeuse, who is summoned when his name is spoken three times. The musical was tried out in Washington, D.C. at the National Theater in 2018 and then opened on Broadway in 2019. It closed, due to COVID, in 2020, but re-opened in 2022 for a year. The national tour of the production hit the road in 2022 as well. Rumors that the musical was being created started circulating in 2016 and the musical that formed went through readings and workshops before hitting the stage.
