The Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, represents a state-of-the-art 3,023-seat facility, which officially opened in November 2021. This venue replaced the War Memorial Auditorium from the Greensboro Coliseum Complex and was funded through a combination of private and city contributions, including a significant pledge from Steven Tanger, CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers. Groundbreaking for the Tanger Center occurred in April 2017, following extensive planning and fundraising efforts to ensure a downtown location for this performing arts hub. The Tanger Center aims to host a wide range of events, including performances by the Greensboro Symphony and Guilford College's Bryan Series, Broadway productions, and concerts. Despite initial financial challenges and delays, including cost overruns and adjustments to the project's scope, the community's support and additional fundraising efforts ensured the project's completion. The center's design features a limestone and glass façade and an 8,000-square-foot lobby named Phillips Hall, recognizing the Phillips Foundation's substantial contributions. The completion of the Tanger Center marks a significant achievement for Greensboro, enhancing the city's cultural landscape and providing a modern venue for performances and community events.
