BYU Cougars Basketball

The BYU Cougars men’s basketball team have been quite successful through the decades, qualifying for 29 NCAA March Madness postseason basketball tournaments, in which they have made it to the Sweet 16 on 7 occasions and the Elite 8 on 3. The Cougars have also produced several excellent players who went on to star in the NBA such as Danny Ainge, Shawn Bradley, and Fred Roberts. Recent seasons have seen the Cougars struggle to make an impact in their conference, though they have maintained a winning record. Their only appearance in the March Madness tournament since 2014 was a first round exit at the hands of the UCLA Bruins in 2021. Having still never made it further than the Elite 8 round, the Cougars will be hoping to break new ground in 2024. With a switch to the more competitive Big 12 Conference starting in 2023-24, hopes are riding high that this breakthrough could be just around the corner.

How can I get cheap tickets to BYU Cougars games?

The small city of Provo, Utah might not be where most hoops fans would expect to find one of the largest college basketball venues in America, but if you head to the city’s campus of Brigham Young University (BYU), that is exactly what you will find in the Marriott Center, an impressive benue that originally held nearly 23,000, though renovations in recent years reduced this number to its current capacity of around 19,000 fans. Despite the size of the venue, tickets frequently sell out. To get your hands on the cheapest tickets to BYU Cougars games, check the TicketX listings on this page and use our helpful TicketX seating chart to compare prices and locations. You can buy tickets from TicketX with just one click for the lowest commission fees!

BYU Cougars Rivalries

Without question, the BYU Cougars’ biggest basketball rivals are their fellow Utah denizens, the Utah Utes. While known these days more as a football rivalry (nicknamed the Holy War), the basketball rivalry between the two schools was actually the major focus throughout most of the schools’ history, dating back to the two teams’ first meeting in 1909. The Cougars and Utes have played almost every year since, with the Cougars holding a narrow 134-129 advantage overall in a series that has swung back and forth over the years. The Utes of course hold the ultimate bragging rights in basketball, being the only team in Utah to ever win a national championship, something which the Cougars would love to change.

Are BYU Cougars basketball games exciting?

With up to 19,000 fans packing the stands of the Marriott Center for home games, the Cougars enjoy fanatical support in Provo. The student section, known as Cougar Nation, always comes decked out in blue and white to cheer their team on to victory. A trip to see the Cougars in action will be an experience that you will not soon forget!
