About Boston Ballet

The Boston Ballet is a classical ballet company that was founded in 1963 in Boston, Massachusetts. It became the first professional ballet company in New England. It has been led by a number of Artistic Directors over the years, the most recent of whom has been there since 2001. The company debuted at the Kennedy Center in 1990 and has toured several other countries, including Spain. While the Boston Ballet doesn’t have an apprentice company, there is a secondary company called Boston Ballet II. Many of the secondary dancers start their paid dancing there and then move on to perform in the main company’s productions. The Boston Ballet School, which was incorporated into the program in 1979, runs the company and serves ballet students from the age of 3. It is the largest dance school in the country.
