Dawes emerged as a band in 2009 from an earlier iteration known as Simon Dawes, with the band choosing to change track slightly from indie to more of a folk-rock sound. The primary members of the band are brothers Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith, with Taylor providing guitar and vocals while Griffin backs him up with the drums. Other musicians have come and gone over the years. After starting out with jam sessions in Laurel Canyon, Dawes moved on to start touring and recording, with their output of albums increasing as the years rolled by.
