The Dave Matthews Band emerged out of Charlottesville, Virginia, in the early 1990s after they got their start playing small jazz and rock venues in the local area. From 1994 onward, the band shot to stardom with their first two studio albums, Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash, gaining them multiple Grammys and platinum sales records. Despite Dave Matthews’s dreamy vocals and the strumming, jangling guitars that characterize much of the band’s music, their songs often take on life’s darker themes, including the tragic death of the vocalist’s own sister. As a jam band, the group is best known for their live shows, with no two concerts being alike due to the musicians’ love of improvisation and musical experimentation. A trip to a Dave Matthews Band gig is an experience that you won’t soon forget!
