Who is Linkin Park?

An American alternative rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California in 1996, Linkin Park exploded onto the music scene with the release of their first album, Hybrid_Theory, which went Diamond with hits like Crawling, In The End—which reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100—and Pushing Me Away.

Linkin Park’s earlier work was a blend of heavy metal and hip hop while later albums were more electronica and pop. The group has won two Grammy Awards, and two Billboard Music Awards, and has sold over 100 million records.

Who Are the Current Members of Linkin Park?

The five current Linkin Park members are Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn, Rob Bourdon, and Dave Farrell. Chester Bennington was the group’s last singer, but he died in 2017. Founding members Shinoda, Delson, and Bourdon all attended Agoura Hills High School.

The former singer for Stone Temple Pilots, and a close friend of Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Bennington was found dead in his Palos Verdes, California home by suicide from hanging—the same fate that ended Cornell’s life.

After Cornell was found dead on May 18, 2017, Bennington said on Instagram he couldn’t imagine a world without Cornell in it. He sang “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen at Cornell’s funeral in Los Angeles.

Bennington took his own life on July 20 that year, his friend Cornell’s birthday. Linkin Park has remained on hiatus since his death, although they have released a couple of projects using older material and unreleased songs.

What Was Linkin Park’s Last Album?

Linkin Park’s last album was, One More Light, released on May 19, 2017, just one day after the tragic death of lead singer Bennington’s dear friend Cornell.

The first single on One More Light was called Heavy, a song featuring pop singer Kiiara—the first time the Los Angeles area group used a female vocalist for a song on one of its studio albums.

What Did the 100-Hour Countdown Timer Mean?

On its website and YouTube channel, Linkin Park hyped up a big 100-hour countdown, with fans waiting with bated breath, assuming the dormant group would maybe be announcing a new singer, tour dates, or maybe the release of a new album.

Most of the over 50,000 people waiting for the countdown clock were assuming Linkin Park would be unveiling a reunion tour with the announcement of that new singer.

But when the clock struck zero, it glitched and simply started counting up at that point which it is still doing. So what does it all mean?

Was Countdown Clock Twitch a Hint at a September 5 Release?

Many noted that toward the end of Linkin Park’s big supposed countdown reveal the snippets started at 00:00:05 and ended at 00:00:09, leading many fans to theorize that the real announcement(s) will be coming next Thursday, September 5 (9/5).

Social Media is now often used to hype future events and leave consumers hanging. Remember when Snoop Dogg said on Twitter, “Please respect my privacy at this time. After much consideration and conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke.”

The joke was on all of us when it was revealed that Snoop was simply partnering with a smokeless first pit brand called Solo Stove.

So Linkin Park fans will look to September 5 as it’s hard to believe the group would take so much time and attention to simply troll its fans. And as the cryptic Twitter post says, “It’s only a matter of time...

Who is Going to Be Linkin Park’s New Lead Singer?

Many watching the official Linkin Park YouTube page were thinking the group would be naming its new singer and replacement for Bennington. We don’t know who, or even if, Linkin Park will be naming a new singer, but we did find out some who won’t be joining.

Orgy lead singer Jay Gordon previously said he heard Linkin Park would be getting back together with a female singer, but then said he was taken out of context, despite the fact he was quoted as saying, “I hear they got a girl singer now.”

Amy Lee has also been rumored to be the next singer for Linkin Park, but the voice of Evanescence quickly put an end to that nonsense. And Sum 41 frontman Derek Whibley was also rumored, but he disposed of those notions.

“I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band,“ Whibley said. “But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.

So if Linkin Park does indeed have plans to reunite and hit the road with a new singer in the works, we may find out very soon.
